Yeah, sure. It's codecs are quite optimised for AltiVec (and so they  
are even more on x86 for MMX/SSE), so that's why there's this  
noticeably difference.

Additionally, VLC will also make use of modern graphics cards  
supporting Quartz Extreme for less CPU-intensive video output (more  
stuff is done by the GPU). Most G4s were equipped with such a card, so  
this will also contribute to the speed gain.
