Regrettably, the browser plugin isn't ready for distribution since the  
0.9.x release as the Mac-OS-X port wasn't updated in order to reflect  
the internal changes between the 0.8.x and 0.9.x series. As the OS X  
dev team is busy with real life stuff these days (namely studying,  
having a day job or both), we just lack the time to do so. Therefore,  
we decide to work on VLC.app, which is _much_ more used than the  
browser plugin.

As Rémi suggested, you are welcome to contribute to the VideoLAN  
project (also through other means than write actual source code), if  
you feel that something isn't in the way that it should be.

For the meantime, consider to install the Perian plugin to be able to  
view a broader range of video types within your web-browser while  
encountering functionality and performance limitations.
