[vlc] External video out blank after upgrading

I have a Dell Latitude laptop (with WindowsXP) connected to a TV for watching video.

I recently upgraded the laptop from vlc-0.8.6c-win32 to vlc-0.9.2-win32.

Now when I play an AVI file, the video can be seen on the laptop screen but there's no output to the TV.

The external interface is enabled in Display properties and all connections are secure.

Is there a setting in VLC that needs to be changed ?
