[vlc] Unable to use activate the Contrast and Brightness in VLC 1.0.1

Hi there,
        I uninstalled VLC 1.0 when 1.0.1 came so that I could watch
videos. I am able to watch videos and the pictures are clearer (thanks
for the updated codecs) but what I'm saddened is that with this I lost
the control of manipulating the brighteness and contrast while
watching a video :(

Have other people experienced the same ?
