[vlc] Trouble playing MOV files

Hello.  My VLC player has problems playing Quicktime MOV files, which
play just fine in Quicktime.  These are large MOV files, not links to
streaming video, so this site didn't help...

Within VLC, the visual part of the video plays fine, but the audio is
choppy, 2 seconds of silence, then a fraction of a second of sound, then
constantly repeating this pattern.  I have version 0.8.6h Janus
