you are welcome to download the current version's source code right

 >. Please have a look at the wiki (at wiki.videolan.org) for detailed  
compilation information. Note that VLC DOES NOT compile with any  
Microsoft compiler as these aren't standard compliant. Third party  
libraries used by VLC aren't included in this tarball. However, you  
can find a list in extras/contrib.
