[vlc] MP4s from SONY CAMERA do not play

1. Bought a new Sony Camera that records movies in .mp4
2. In VLC Sound appears to play normal but picture is frozen and sporadic

Help!!
Is this a codec problem?

The same thing occurs with all of my movie players (Windows Media Player
included)

I am really at a loss for information.
