[vlc] vlc player

I updated my vlc player and now I don't have any menus and I cant see the time at the bottom
I have tried to install it twice and the same problem happens every time I try and open a vlc file
I cam see the movie but there is NO options, no menu and no time slide at the bottom
I am using windows xp
what is wrong?
