[vlc] VLC 1.0.5

I recently installed VLC 1.0.5 and I cannot make the track syncronisation tab or effects tab work AT ALL. I would like to download a previous version which allowed me to do this - but not being a computer prograammer I cannot even work out what to do with - VLC1.0.4.tar.bz2 - I have unzipped it and there is no .exe to run it or install it - Please help me continue to support you wonderful program - which at the moment I cannot use
