[vlc] Graphics Adapter Bug Report‏

I don't believe this has anything to do with a specific version or hardware(somewhat though) or OS. It is that now days you are starting to get more HD mp4 videos and you have no way of knowing the resolution of them and VLC will try to play them even though your graphics adapter will not support them. It will crash your adapter and give you the "BLACK-SCREEN-OF DEATH" but windows will finally come back with the default adapter and at 4 bit color and you can not change it because you have no display driver at this point. The only answer is to reboot and it will come back to the low res and 4 bit color screen (because windows remembered it) but you can now change it back because your display driver is running. The mp4 file did start playing though but with only audio and no video. VLC shouldn't allow these HD videos to play at all if the hardware won't support it....some people would thiink they just got some kind of virus. Give this a try...works every time..."BLACK-SCREEN-OF
