[vlc] Irritating "Downloads" folder

I have been using VLC for a couple of years now and love it.  Rceently it
has started automatically inserting a "Downloads" folder on my hard drive.
Can't remember if I changed any setting but have gone through every setting
in SETTINGS - PREFERENCES abd cannot find anything that would do this! How
do I get rid of this please - previously when I took snapshots I saved them
to desktop. Now it saves them in "Downlaods" folder and cannot change it!
Help pls!
