[vlc] italics in srt file not playing in VLC / Vista

I have an srt subtitle file with some portions in italics.

KMPlayer and Windows Media Player will display the italics, but not VLC Player.

I have version 1.0.3 on a Windows Vista computer.

Does VLC Player support italics srt files?   What should I look for 
to solve this problem?  I tried to set it up with a different 
font.   That didn't make any difference, but maybe I didn't choose 
the correct font.
