[vlc] What are the metada that VLC player check/reads before play

Ok, lets consider a particular audio video codec and particular format as given below:
Video codec: h264
Audio Codec: mp3
Container format: mp4

Now can you explain what are the different parameters w.r.t above mentioned details that VLC player will be reading before playing (decoding) it.

That depends on the container.

First it tries to match the file extension. If that fails, it tries to

autodetect the file format based on magic numbers or such.
