[vlc] vlc versions 1.0.3-1.1.0

so far i am having no luck with any of the recent versions of VLC media
player. the player will always crash within 5 seconds of starting the video.
is there anything I can do about this? i'm running the latest version of
Windows XP 32-bit.
VLC runs perfectly fine on my Ubuntu computer.
