[vlc] .avi files and Mac

Dear Vic:

The VLC media player is of course wonderful and plays .avi files   
perfectly. However I downloaded a series of files .avi.100, .avi.200  
etc.  I have tried everything to get them to play including removing  
the .100 without success. Do you have any suggestions?
