[vlc] how to extend vlc http interface for webcam recording

Hi,

I would like to expand the http-interface of vlc with a button "record webcam". 
So I can save the webcam video to the local disk - like it can be done with the 
record button of the "normal" vlc gui. Is that feasible?
Any starting points for that?

Or are there any other ways to remotely (i.e. from another application) start a 
webcam recording (while viewing yourself).
