[vlc] VLC media player 1.1.10

Dear Videolan,

I have been successfully using VLC Media Player for quite some time but, due to a computer 'crash' in which I lost just about everything in the program and utilities line, I have just downloaded the latest available version. Unfortunately this version doesn't work and plays my videos (own and downloaded) either not at all or with major faults such as picture distortion and disruption and/or stutters and stops, rendering the program unusable.

An older version on my laptop continues to work properly and, obviously, I am not keen to update this.

Is there a fault that you know of or is this some consequence of my pc's failure?
