[vlc] jittery video using vlc as RTSP client

Hi,

I can't get vlc to play RTSP video streams smoothly. Playing a stream
from a device on the LAN or from an Internet stream such as from the URL
below, vlc seems to frequently jitter as if the frames are being
displayed in the wrong order. The same streams work fine if I play them
using ffplay.

With the Internet stream (which is H264/AAC) I get lots of the following
error:

number of reference frames exceeds max (probably corrupt input),
discarding one

With the stream from the device on the LAN (which is MPEG-4/G711) I get
the same jittering, but no errors printed.

$ vlc --version
VLC media player 1.1.9 The Luggage (revision exported)
VLC version 1.1.9 The Luggage (exported)
Compiled by mockbuild on hephaestus.wilsonet.com (Apr 12 2011 14:55:37)
Compiler: gcc version 4.5.1 20100924 (Red Hat 4.5.1-4) (GCC)

Fedora 14, x86-64, core i5 2400, Radeon HD 4350

The problem has also been observed on Windows running VLC 1.0.5 on a
machine which plays the streams okay using QuickTime, so it seems to be
a long-standing, non-hardware related problem.

Regards,
Chris.
