I'm an engineering student from India. I'm mailing you with regard to my
engineering final year project idea.
The idea of the project is to build a media player in JAVA (as using JAVA
facilitates cross-platform running of the application) . All the features
that I'd wish to incorporate into this player which probably are not
supported by the existing players are:

   - This player along with playing the usual audio & video files of varied
formats shall enable a user to play or rather view images (again of varied
   formats).
   - It shall perform the task of DE/COMPRESSION on an input file
irrespective of it being an audio, video or image file. Obviously a file is
compressed in order to cater to the memory related issues. Similarly it'll
perform the task of decompression on an already compressed file which will
be given as input this file.
   - The next task that this player can perform is to CONVERT an input file
(audio, video or image) of one format to the other appropriate one. Along
with a conversion it can also allow a user to trim an input file as needed.
   - Probably the last task that this player can perform is to DETECT the
type or format of compressed prior to it being decompressed.

I was wondering if you people could lend me your quality time and a worthy
opinion about the feasibility of this project i.e., whether it would be
possible to create an open-source cross-platform media player application
incorporated with these features.
Eagerly awaiting a reply from you.
