A dot? Anyway I couldn't compile it too on Mac OS X 10.3.8 some days 
ago using Jam.
Using Make was fine, but remember to edit the Makefile uncommenting:
ARCH=PPC
and
SYS=MACOSX
and commenting what was uncommented before.

This makes me wonder why can't Make recognize automatically the 
architecture and the OS...
