I've included a patch into my rpm packages to fix this issue (the same
happens on Fedora Core) :

http://svn.rpmforge.net/svn/trunk/rpms/x264/

It also fixes DESTDIR stuff which is only partial (i.e. doesn't work in
an empty build root). I sent it to the list a few weeks back, but
apparently it didn't go in (yet?).
