x264 does not support 422, and neither does any other published h264 
encoder besides the reference. mpeg4/h263 don't even allow 422 in the 
standard, so you'd have to go all the way back to mpeg2 if you really 
want 422.

If you use mencoder or ffmpeg, they'll automatically convert it to 420.
