I’m really just guessing, but this *could* be caused by an old glibc :(
Also make sure you really remove all traces of the old binutils instead of
just wildly placing symlinks.
If all else fails, you could still try setting up a newer system in a chroot
environment and compiling x264 there. Also try using a sufficiently recent
static uclibc if you want to use the resulting binary on the real system
without having to worry about conflicting glibc.
