[x264-devel] compatibility of profile and level

Hi,

I'm encoding mp4 videos targeting to Apple iPad Air which supports High
profile level 42.

I know that if a decoder supports a level, means it can decode any video
streams encoded for
that level and all lower levels.

But what I'm wondering is, if I encode to base/main profile for iPad Air,
what highest level could I use?  Could it decode Main profile with whatever
level? or only up to Main profile level 4.2?
