It depends on what you want out of it really

If you just want multicast then videolan is a great choice

If you want true vod, then videolan is still in its infancy, it does now support RTSP, but this is a long way from being fully supported and from the demo's i have seen it does not fully support trickplay functionality.

What are you looking at doing?
