Well, if MPEG4 doesn't suit, you can try MPEG1

However, one issue  of vlc current transcoding module is  that (I think)
it is unable to encode at another framerate than 25 img/s

If streaming  MPEG1 in PS  over http,  virtually every client  should be
able to read it.
