Hi Calin,
I used VLC client (browser plugin - IE and FF), with VLC server with
success. VLC version 0.8.4a was best in my experience so far from a server
perspective (0.8.5 could not replay the stream after a pause, instead it
restarted the RTSP stream).
VLC client is always 0.8.5 on my end.
Thanks,
Pushkal

Subject: [streaming] VLC VoD Server -- does it *work*?
I can't get VLC Video On Demand to work at all (using rtsp). If I use
vlc
as the server and vlc as the client (basically vlc talking to vlc) for
rtsp:// VoD, the client barfs and aborts the play attempt because it
complains that it isn't a "Real/Helix" vlc server.
Some investigation into the sources revealed that basically the client
rtsp access plugin expects the server string to contain "Real" or
"Helix"
and if it doesn't it fails (modules/access/rtsp/access.c line 202 or
so).
However, the VLC VoD RTSP server string is "VLC Server".
Also, RealPlayer, mplayer, WMP also refuse to play rtsp urls's from
a vlc server.
Any ideas? Does anyone else find it strange that the vlc client can't
talk to the vlc server? How did other people get VoD over rtsp
working?!
PS: I am using 0.8.5 and 0.8.6 svn.
