Saving input stream to disk

Hi,
I would like to add save to disk functionality to the VideoLAN client. I'm 
not too sure how to implement this. I want to be able to save an incoming PS 
or TS stream to an MPEG2 file and possibly convert a TS stream to PS format. 
How would I go about doing this? Which blocks of the vlc architecture need 
to be modified?

If this has been discussed before which I haven't seen, would some one 
please direct me to the appropriate resources? Thanks in advance.
