Mac OS X: ffmpeg mpeg-4

Hi,


vlc doesn't play mpeg-4/DivX created with the ffmpeg port to Mac OS X.  
QuickTime plays it (at least using 3ivx decoder) and the fourCC identifies 
is as DIVX...

...and vlc uses ffmpeg...
[Doesn't it?]

So, why isn't it compatible?
