Try removing your preferences HOME/Library/Preferences/VLC/vlcrc
It will be fixed in a next release.

This indicates that your computer is too slow to decode this movie and
that it is giving up.
Future releases might improve speed dramatically, so don't give up on
us yet, and try any of our future versions.
