Please note, for those who have fink installed on their system, that 
they should edit the file
/sw/bin/init.csh
and change the line at the top to :
set path = (  $path /usr/X11R6/bin /sw/bin /sw/sbin)

because if you don't, /sw/bin and /sw/sbin will be checked before 
/usr/local/bin etc, and hence
/usr/local/bin/automake won't be used !!
