If you compiled vlc from source, you must make sure you compiled the mad
plugin (uses libmad as the mpeg audio decoder).
If not, you may have modified your vlc config file (through the preferences
menu) in such a way that disables the mpeg audio decoder. You'd better
remove your vlc config file to make sure of this.
