[vlc-devel] OSX build issue?

When building VLC from the latest CVS sources, the following happens:

... if I indeed rm /tmp, bootstrap complains ... but if /tmp exists, 
the above error happens.  Has anyone else seen this (i'm trying to 
build for Mac OSX 10.2.8)?
