What version of ipkg does the Zaurus uses? I think the problem lies in

Could you check where ldconfig is located on the filesystem?
Is the rootfilesystem mounted readonly? and the usr filesystem read-write?

It looks like in version vlc-0.7.1 does not understand WMA v2 command
syntax properly. Could you try the file with vlc-0.8.0-test2 or
vlc-0.7.2 and your desktop? And with vlc-0.7.1?
