[vlc-devel] libavcodec, static vs. shared

When I build cvs of VLC with cvs of libavcodec staticly linked
(--with-ffmpeg-tree=extras/ffmpeg) , I get 204 modules built along with VLC.  If
I used shared libavcodec objects, then I get about 216 modules built.  Can
anyone explain to me why some modules will only build if libavcodec is shared
vs. static?
