Different access plugins have different cache settings, UDP and HTTP for 
instance, but see the preferences. The internal buffer is relatively 
small (src/input/stream.c hints at a value of 32kb).

The other obvious memory users are the GUI and the video output (but you 
probably don't want to touch the last one).
