Well, I remember reading some messages here or in the main VLC  
mailing list about FLV support being removed from the Mac version  
because it was broken, probably in 0.8.4 or something. And while  
0.8.5 *seems* to have it back it still doesn't look like FLV playback  
is fully endorsed: FLV is not registered as a supported type in the  
CFBundleDocumentTypes section of the application bundle Plist. Not to  
mention the numerous access_file errors occuring when trying to play  
an FLV (access_file: seeking too far, access_file: seeking too early,  
etc, etc) which sometimes just flash (no pun intended) on the screen  
and then disapear.

So if FLV support is the same on Mac and on Windows, then it's broken  
on both :)
