Thanks for the explanation. I understand the community support. Is there some way to have the make work so it does not try to use the .exes? No big deal right now since I know the workaround.
  Anyway thanks for putting all that effort into contrib it is appreciated by the "windows" community ;)
   
  I only deleted the .exes you mentioned there were some files with the same name with no extension and I left those there till I try a build tonight.

It is not the "Windows distribution", it is the "Windows contrib" to
build the Windows binaries. 

And you can see that you can do it from linux and from windows. So you
need both executables to satisfy both community.
