Not really. I think the vlc developers are fine with git. Some of them  
have even been using it for a while now. That's not the case for  
Mercurial.

Also, git tends to spread more than mercurial, while it's development  
pace keeps increasing, so I guess git is much oriented towards the  
future.

I think that now git just works on Windows (with Cygwin).
