You are assuming that people only use VLC as a standalone app. That is
not the case: people are embedding VLC in other applications, where
deriving any kind of argv[0] is useless.

Anyway, if the decision to keep argv[0] is taken (which would be a
shame), then please take care of unbreaking what you broke in the
various bindings code.
