The problem with this approach (and also the particular thing I was whining 
about...) is with small hacks. Nobody contends that large changes should be 
done in separate trees.

But I think what's more important is for people to let others a change to 
review small hacks, core changes and other potentially disruptive changes. 
That _can_ be by pointing at there tree. That can be by posting the patchset 
to vlc-devel. Whatever. I am *happy* when people stop committing weird hacks 
or complaining about negative reviews.
