I use contribs.

That did it!  Everything is once again right with the world! :)  FYI,  
I used "./configure" as my command-line and all the Mac OS X options  
were chosen for me.  The instructions to use "./configure --enable- 
debug --with-macosx-sdk" from the wiki didn't work for me.
