[vlc-devel] Use of vlc as a "codec development framework"

Hello,

I'm interesting in developing improvements to existing H264 codec, and 
also in creating new codecs.
It would seem VLC is a good candidate for this purpose, but I've not 
found any mention of it.

I would like to see a hiearchy of c++ classes that maintain the required 
interface that VLC expects...
a codec baseclass.  For new codecs, there might need to  be someway of 
registering the new codec
and compiling it into a .so or dll?
