IMO, as soon as 0.9.<whatever> is released we won't have to take care  
about broad public release for win/mac. The update system will keep  
users informed as soon as binaries for their platforms are released.

Currently the only way for a mac/win user to update is to have them to  
know that via a public announcement. This is soon over.
