[vlc-devel] VLC 0.8.6 end of support

Hi,

  let me say it's quite strange to see EOS on 0.8.6 at this point of time.
The "please upgrade to 0.9.x" is very hard to perform when there's no
working binary for e.g. Win32 (the latest nightly has *huge* memory
leak and crashes after ~5 sec.). Not mentioning the fact that e.g.
the new RTP access (still called experimental) fails to play any MPEG-TS
not coming from another VLC instance.

  It's hard to understand, why fully working and crash-tested RTP code
which has been around for several releases was completely dumped and
replaced by something which is apparently not usable. 

  If there's interest to write in-house implementation of RTP code
from scratch (instead of using the live555 library) - OK, but please
keep the working code until the new one is at least minimally debugged
and usable. Otherwise the users will have no other choice than to
stick with 0.8.6 - now without any support...
