Lets face it. VLC is historically a French project. France, while a 
secular state, has a strong Christian Catholic heritage. Also, VLC 
working language is English, which is also biased.

Just about everybody will understand the reference to Christmas. I don't 
think the VideoLAN projects opposes adding more icon references. But:
 - the date formula has to be simple (i.e. _not_ Easter),
 - and the reference has to be widely understood.

And I would not understand a reference to Ganesh Chaturthi, so...
