I think you're wasting your time. Libvlc 1.0 has many known bugs, some of
which deadlock or crash. Most importantly there is a known deadlock case
when stopping playback (which pretty much every app does).

And then, if people keep on using the previous version, we never get wide
testing for the current version, so we never get to fix it.
