[vlc-devel] Playing MKV files

You can force the demux module with following syntax when you open file
Stream MRL syntax:
  [[access][/demux]://]URL[@[title][:chapter][-[title][:chapter]]] [:option=value ...]

but I don't if there is other module available. And as usual, I have to suggest that you upgrade to VLC 1.0.x or to VLC 1.1.x
