well, in fact this will turn more complicated for the Qt interface module because of the variety of audio output modules.
Starting in 2.1, every output module implements its own audio setting and its own volume scale, so there are separate options. For the Mac, we could also add support for AudioQueue but I guess that nobody cares, since it is limited to 2.0 PCM.
