extensions, except for hacking the system. I only see it used by the

Useful, as a makeshift "I-need-a-directory-to-write-my-stuff" interface,
but should be replaced by an API actually designed for that.

I don't know and don't understand what this does. So putting back these
two functions in the API would be retarded.
